Think of a major decision the main character made in the story. Would you have made the same decision? Explain why.
In this story Sam leaves his tiny apartment full of eight brothers and sisters, off to his great grandfather's abandoned farm. I would not leave the apartment because I’d be alone. I wouldn't like to be alone because then I wouldn't have anyone to talk to. I'd feel unsafe. I'd be scared that I might get taken. I wouldn't know what my family is doing or where they are at, or if they have noticed that I'm gone.
How did the main character change from the beginning to the end of the story? What do you think made him change?
Sam changed from being a city kid to a country kid. He met a lot of people on his way to the Gribley Farm. One of them taught him how to hunt, and another, whom Sam called Bando, found clay and made a fire place and an oven. Sam left New York because he was cramped in one apartment with a big family that made him feel frustrated. When his family found Sam, they brought New York to him so that made him feel happy. That wild boy.
Describe the strategies needed for survival that you learned from this reading book.
The most common strategies the main character learned was how to start a fire, how to hunt, and how to make shelter. He also had to get used to the wilderness. Sam lived in the city so he knew his way around the streets of New York, but not the wilderness. He knew how to shop for food in the markets but he didn't know how to make his own food in the wild.
I love this book. I would totally recommend it!!
